Unusual video from Florida police shows note on ‘first date’ brick woman allegedly hurled through ex’s window

A Bizarre Incident Unfolds: A Woman, a Brick, and a Denied Act

In a shocking and unusual incident that has garnered significant attention, a woman in Florida was captured on camera throwing a brick through her ex-boyfriend’s window, despite her initial denial of the act. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office released a video on their Facebook page that appears to show Sabrina Coyne, a 34-year-old woman, hurling a brick through the window of a Bonita Springs residence. The brick, which held sentimental value from the pair’s first date, was used in an act of vandalism that has raised questions about the unpredictability of domestic disputes. The video, which combines doorbell camera footage and police bodycam recordings, has been widely shared, with the caption, "Woman throws brick through window – ‘It wasn’t me.’"

The Incident and Its Aftermath

The incident occurred several days before the video’s release, when the homeowner, who has not been named, was awoken by a loud crash and banging on the front door. Officers from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where they found evidence of the damaged window and the brick. Sabrina Coyne, who claimed to have been married to the man, was identified as the suspect. However, it was later clarified that the two were not legally married but had been in a domestic relationship that had recently ended. Sheriff Carmine Marceno of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office described the situation as a case of domestic violence, emphasizing the unpredictability and potential deadliness of such incidents. He noted that Coyne, upon arriving at the house, found the sentimental brick from their first date and used it to shatter the window. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.

A Denial Despite Evidence

The video released by the sheriff’s office provides a clear timeline of events. In the footage, an officer is heard asking Coyne, "Did you launch anything in there?" to which she responds with a simple "No." However, the video then cuts to footage from the doorbell camera, which clearly shows a woman, identified as Coyne, throwing the brick through the window. The discrepancy between her denial and the evidence is stark, and the sheriff’s office emphasized this by repeatedly displaying the word "Wrong" in all caps on the screen each time Coyne denies her actions. Sheriff Marceno highlighted the absurdity of the situation, stating, "She denies doing anything, even though it’s clearly caught on video, she denies it." The video also features the song "It Wasn’t Me" by Shaggy and Rikrok playing in the background, a choice that adds a layer of dark humor to the otherwise serious situation.

The Sheriff’s Office Emphasizes Transparency and Awareness

Sheriff Marceno and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office have been praised for their transparency in sharing the video, which serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and the need for accountability. Marceno explained that the department values transparency and uses social media to inform the public about their work. "We have such amazing residents here in Lee County. It’s not their job to find out what we’re doing. It’s our job to deliver that information," he said. By sharing the video, the sheriff’s office aimed to not only inform the public but also to underscore the seriousness of domestic violence while using humor to make the message more relatable. "When you use a little bit of humor … you’re not making light of a situation, but you’re kind of showing people, ‘Hey, this is what took place. Thank God nobody was hurt.’ You’re getting that information out and maybe just using a little bit of humor, which gives it a little cutting edge," Marceno added.

Coyne’s Arrest and the Broader Message

Sabrina Coyne was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and throwing a deadly missile into an occupied dwelling. She was later released after posting bond, according to Marceno and online records from the sheriff’s office. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of unchecked emotions and the importance of seeking healthy ways to resolve conflicts. Sheriff Marceno emphasized that domestic violence is a serious issue that requires immediate attention and zero tolerance. "No matter what’s going on … take a breath … cool minds prevail because we’re not going to tolerate domestic violence," he said. He also warned that such incidents can have long-lasting effects, stating, "That one snapshot in time could define many more days, nights, months and years down the road."

Conclusion: A Cautionary Tale

The story of Sabrina Coyne and the brick thrown through the window is a cautionary tale about the dangers of allowing emotions to escalate into violent actions. While the incident itself is unsettling, the way it has been handled by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office offers a glimpse into the complexities of addressing domestic violence and the importance of transparency in law enforcement. By sharing the video and emphasizing the seriousness of the crime, the sheriff’s office has sent a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated. As the video goes viral, it serves as a reminder that actions have consequences and that seeking help and resolution through peaceful means is always the better choice.
