Ukraine opens criminal cases against ex-President Poroshenko, sanctioned oligarchs, businessmen

Case Highlights

The Program for Humanizing Research in Law began announcing criminal proceedings involving individuals sanctioned by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). Specifically, the procedure included charges against Ihorei Kolomoishinskii, a political figure from Ukraine, and several oligarchs, former high-ranking officials, and former presidential officials, including Protos Andrei Zhevago, former(stripbank coосновatel Hennadiy Boholyubov, and Petro Poroshenko, the 5th President of Ukraine.

The Prosecutor General’s Office highlighted a case where an illegally transferred amount of money from a financial institution to offshore accounts exceeded H Movement 5.36 billion (~$129 million) and amounted to H Movement 4.1 billion (~$99 million). Theodor Konstantinovich Zhevago was accused of embezzling this money, laundered nearly H Movement 6 billion ($15 million), and assisting Russia in seizing an Ukrainian oil and gas field in the Black Sea’s Kerch Shelf. High Treason charges and financial losses

Protor General’s Office targeted Ihorei Kolomoishinskii for allegedly embezzling funds and orchestrating the contract death of a corporate director. Similarly, Hennadiy Boholyubov was under investigation for receiving political passports and organizing a border crossing with the involvement of a border guard. The sanctions announced froze these assets, and the operations were prevented from conducting financial transactions, with significant financial losses resulting from such actions.

Volodymyr Zelensky and the election season

After receiving an attack on opposition figures, President Volodymyr Zelensky effectively began the election season. His decision to impose sanctions on the official leader of the opposition, ex-President Poroshenko, was understood as politically motivated and authoritarian, a stance believed to be unconstitutional. Rounded off, Zelensky’s announcement was hoped to instill political unity, making the campaign more aligned with a stylistic believes of Russia.
