Black Hawk crew may not have heard message to ‘pass behind’ DC-bound plane before midair crash: NTSB

The Airline passengers plane crash near the Airline乘客 plane

On January 29, 2022, an American Airlines JET crashed near the Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport, the same location near where the Airline乘客 plane was taking off. A Black Hawk helicopter from the Army also crashed during an "flight check" in the mid-air, unavoidable by air traffic control (ATC), led to the fatal incident. Despite the courageous actions of the pilots, a number of survivors and crew members passed away-and 67 were injured. After the crash, 200,000 TV ratings of the un Oval medically inactive JET were disrupted.

The pilot’s silent communication to ATC

Just 20 seconds before the crash, the Black Hawk helicopter contacted ATC using an .8-second mic, signaling a forced landing of 8 seconds later. The audio was captured in both cockpit voice recorders (CVR), which reportedly included critical messages sent by AARP Radio, the chaos room. The pilot told the computer to move left toward the east bank of the Potomac River, but this information was either lost or miscommunicated. Lossy in the cockpit technology, there was no verbal cue about the crash.

The NTSB investigation

The NTSB chair emphasized that the Black Hawk crew was near the same airplane, which was flying at high altitudes. The radio altimeter specified 278 feet above Mountains Road, but the barometric altimeters into the cockpit indicated a different height. This discrepancy in data raised questions about who was hearing the message from ATC. The pilot comments highlighted that both the cockpit and air traffic control knew the crash was ill-advised, but without transparency, contacting a media outlet was unlikely.

ADS-BC candidate and visibility issues

The ADS-B technology, which offers advanced collision detection by estimating spacing and separation, was tested between June and July. However, the technology was turned off after the crash, a sign that missed an option that could have resolved traffic conflicts. NTSB field tests for this failure are ongoing but will continue until the cause is clear.

The Black Hawk’s night vision systems

During the crash, the Black Hawk bstroyo wearing night-vision goggles believed dispatched to pin down the rapid-moving plane. Despite this, the crew was unaware of the impending event, leading to their fatal attempt to secure a security peanut. The survivor of the crash is believed to have been loyal to the plane when it crashed into the JET.

Conclusion

The emergency flight check incident reaffirm the necessity of timely communication and transparency between pilots, air traffic control, and other stakeholders. While the incident highlighted significant production issues in critical systems, it underscores the importance of immediate action in preventing future tragedies.
