Attorney says opposition figure detained in Uganda for alleged crimes against the state is unwell

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — A prominent opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, has been arrested in Uganda following his alleged illegal possession of a firearm and threatening state security. Besigye, who wasrioved from Kenya on November 16, has been in detention since the charges were announced, criticizing both the government and the military for his actions. Four-time presidential candidate Besigye is in need of urgent medical attention, and his attorney, Erias Lukwago, is emphasizing his unwell status and the urgent need for specialized care within the prison system. The charges against Besigye include threats of national security, possession of a firearm, and treachery, with Lukwago estimates that he faces a risk of death if the penalty for treachery is imposed.
